We love to hear about inspirational cheerleaders, so when we heard about Sofie Tate at Columbus High School in Nebraska, we had to share her story with you! As you know, cheerleading is challenging. Sofie was born with one leg and is able to do things many people can't do with two. In fact, more than 70 people came out for the school's cheerleading tryouts, and Sofie made the team. "I can't even explain how remarkable it is," Columbus High cheer coach Amy Williams told 1011 Central News. "Her upper-body strength to be able to do that. A couple of games ago she was doing back handsprings. I can't do that with two arms and two legs." Sofie had danced before, but was inspired to try cheerleader after seeing University of Arkansas cheerleader Patience Beard cheer with a prosthetic leg. Now Sofie is inspiring others to face their fears and just try new things"”like cheerleading! Sofie is only human and admits she does complain about having one leg sometimes, but she also knows she has it a lot better than many people and is thankful for what she has. One of those things she's thankful for is her wonderful cheer squad. "They took me in," Tate said. "I don't know if they we're a little kind of like, 'Oh, how's she going to be able to do half the things that we do,' but they have embraced me. They're so good to me. So is Amy. I really love them all." Watch the video below and read more on Sofie from 1011 Central News.
